Antarktika'daki buzullar için yeni keşif: "Aniden tersine döndü"
Bilim insanları, Antarktika'da buzulların erime eğiliminin aniden tersine döndüğünü keşfetti.
angay'daki Tongji Üniversitesi'nden araştırmacılar, Antarktika'nın on yıllardır devam eden felaket boyutundaki erime eğiliminin aniden tersine döndüğünü ve son yıllarda rekor miktarlarda buzu geri kazandığını keşfetti.
Antarktika'nın kalıcı buz tabakası 2002 ile 2020 yılları arasında yaklaşık yirmi yıl boyunca endişe verici bir oranda buz kaybetmesine rağmen, bu eğilim 2021 yılında aniden değişti.
Çalışma, 2021'den 2023'e kadar Antarktika'daki alışılmadık derecede yoğun kar yağışının taze buz tabakalarının oluşmasına yardımcı olduğunu ve bu olayın deniz seviyesindeki yükselişin yavaşlamasına da neden olduğunu ortaya koydu.
Küresel ısınma nedeniyle okyanus sıcaklıkları arttıkça ve daha fazla buzul eridikçe küresel deniz seviyeleri yükseliyor ve dünyanın dört bir yanındaki büyük kıyı şehirlerini su basma tehdidiyle karşı karşıya bırakıyor.
Araştırmacılar, bu üç yıllık iklim değişikliğinin küresel deniz seviyesindeki yıllık yükselişi neredeyse yüzde 15 oranında azalttığını tespit etti.
120 MİLYAR TON BUZ KAYBI TAHMİN EDİLİYOR
Antarktika'daki bu son değişiklikten önce, çalışma buz tabakasının önceki yirmi yılda yılda yaklaşık 120 milyar ton buz kaybettiğini tahmin ediyordu.
2021 ve 2023 yılları arasında Antarktika her yıl yaklaşık 108 milyar ton buz kazanıyordu. Araştırmacılar, bu şaşırtıcı sonuçların Antarktika'daki hava koşullarında geçici bir değişimi yansıttığını ve iklim şüphecilerinin eninde sonunda tekrar değişebileceğini belirttiler.
